Marvin Harrison Jr. Called Out by NFL Coach for Not Running 40: 'Competitors Compete'

Marvin Harrison Jr. has long been considered one of the top young receivers in football, and he very well may be the first non-quarterback selected at this year's NFL draft.

But he also chose to bypass workouts at the NFL Scouting Combine and didn't run the 40-yard dash at all ahead of the draft, decisions that raised some eyebrows in league circles.

"Why not run?" a coach said to The Athletic's Jeff Howe. "Competitors compete."

"So much unknown with the way he handled the process," an executive added.

Harrison certainly put enough on tape to be a top-five pick, registering 155 catches for 2,613 yards and 31 touchdowns in three college seasons.
